Spice Pistoles – Delicious Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/2 cup cold butter, cut into small cubes
- 1/2 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup cold milk
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, smoked paprika, cumin, and cayenne pepper.
- Add the cubed butter and grated cheese to the dry mixture and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to break the butter down into small pieces until the mixture resembles coarse sand.
- Add the cold milk to the mixture and use a fork to bring it all together into a shaggy dough.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it gently until it comes together into a smooth ball.
- Flatten the ball into a disk and wrap it tightly in plastic wrap. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use a cookie cutter or a sharp knife to cut out rounds or other fun shapes.
- Place the rounds on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and fragrant.
- Remove the spice pistoles from the oven and let them cool slightly on the baking sheet before transferring them to a wire rack or serving dish.
