Ingredients

  • 3 large pears
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9-inch cake pan.
  2. Peel and core the pears. Cut 2 pears into quarters and slice the third crosswise into thin slices. Set aside.
  3. In a medium bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  4. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
  5. Add flour mixture in 3 parts alternating with the milk, mixing until just combined.
