American hamburger: gourmet recipe (30 min)

American Hamburger: Gourmet Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. high-quality ground beef (85% lean, 15% fat)
  • 2 tbsp. unsalted butter
  • 1/2 yellow onion, sliced
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp. Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. black pepper
  • 4 brioche buns, toasted
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 4 leaves lettuce
  • 4 slices tomato
  • 4 slices red onion

Directions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well with your hands, and divide mixture into 4 portions.
  2. Shape each portion into a patty, making a shallow thumbprint in the center of each patty to prevent puffing up while cooking.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Melt unsalted butter in skillet.
  4. Add sliced yellow onion to the skillet, and cook for about 5 minutes or until caramelized. Remove onions from skillet, and set aside.
  5. Add burgers to the skillet, and cook for 3-4 minutes per side or until browned and cooked to your desired degree of doneness.
  6. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each burger, and cover with a lid to allow cheese to melt. Remove burgers from skillet.
  7. Assemble burgers by placing each burger patty on a toasted brioche bun. Top with caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, and red onion slices. Serve hot.

Verdict

This American Hamburger is a gourmet twist on a classic favorite. The combination of flavors from the seasoning and caramelized onions make this burger irresistible. The brioche buns add an extra hint of sweetness and texture, while the cheddar cheese melts perfectly on top of the burgers. The lettuce, tomato, and red onion slices provide a refreshing crunch that balances the richness of the burger. This recipe is perfect for those who want to elevate their backyard BBQ game.
