Beaufort Chard Gratin Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 lb chard
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup grated Beaufort cheese
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 cup bread crumbs
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Trim the chard and cook it in boiling salted water for 5 minutes. Drain and chop it.
- Melt the butter in a saucepan over low heat, and whisk in the flour. Cook for 2 minutes.
- Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly. Cook until the sauce thickens, stirring occasionally.
- Add the grated cheese, salt, pepper, nutmeg and garlic to the sauce. Stir until the cheese is melted.
- Mix the bread crumbs with the olive oil.
- Butter a gratin dish, and sprinkle some bread crumbs on the bottom. Add half of the chard on top.
- Pour half of the cheese sauce over it and cover with the remaining chard. Pour the rest of the sauce on top.
- Sprinkle the remaining bread crumbs over the top of the gratin.
- Bake the gratin in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until the topping is golden and the gratin is bubbling.
Serving Suggestions:
This Beaufort Chard Gratin is best served hot, fresh out of the oven. It makes a delicious side dish to any meal, and pairs especially well with roasted meats or poultry. You could also enjoy it on its own as a main dish with a side salad. Enjoy!
