Beaufort chard gratin


Beaufort Chard Gratin Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb chard
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup grated Beaufort cheese
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Trim the chard and cook it in boiling salted water for 5 minutes. Drain and chop it.
  3. Melt the butter in a saucepan over low heat, and whisk in the flour. Cook for 2 minutes.
  4. Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly. Cook until the sauce thickens, stirring occasionally.
  5. Add the grated cheese, salt, pepper, nutmeg and garlic to the sauce. Stir until the cheese is melted.
  6. Mix the bread crumbs with the olive oil.
  7. Butter a gratin dish, and sprinkle some bread crumbs on the bottom. Add half of the chard on top.
  8. Pour half of the cheese sauce over it and cover with the remaining chard. Pour the rest of the sauce on top.
  9. Sprinkle the remaining bread crumbs over the top of the gratin.
  10. Bake the gratin in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until the topping is golden and the gratin is bubbling.

Serving Suggestions:

This Beaufort Chard Gratin is best served hot, fresh out of the oven. It makes a delicious side dish to any meal, and pairs especially well with roasted meats or poultry. You could also enjoy it on its own as a main dish with a side salad. Enjoy!
