Giant Mushroom Croque-Monsieur Recipe
Ingredients:
- 4 large portobello mushrooms, stems removed
- 8 slices of bread
- 8 slices of ham
- 8 slices of Swiss cheese
- 1/4 cup of butter, melted
- 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups of milk
- 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Place the portobello mushrooms gill-side down on a baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes.
- Flip the mushrooms over and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, make the béchamel sauce. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat and whisk in the flour until smooth.
- Slowly pour in the milk, whisking constantly until the sauce thickens.

- Divide the béchamel sauce among the four sandwiches.
- Place the top slices of bread back on top of the sandwiches and brush with more melted butter.
- Bake for an additional 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
