Köttbullar or Swedish Meatballs
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/3 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 1/4 tsp ground allspice
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 400°F.
- In a mixing bowl, mix together ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, egg, salt, pepper, allspice, and nutmeg. Mix well with your hands.
- Form mixture into small meatballs, about 1 1/2 inches in diameter.
- In a large oven-safe skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Brown meatballs on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
- Transfer skillet to preheated oven and cook meatballs for an additional 10-12 minutes or until cooked through. Remove skillet from oven and set aside.
- In a separate saucepan, melt 2 tbsp butter over medium-high heat. Whisk in flour to make a roux. Slowly pour in beef broth, whisking constantly.
- Add heavy cream and continue whisking until sauce has thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Pour sauce over meatballs in skillet and serve immediately.
