Potimarron Shepherd’s Pie: Gourmet Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground lamb
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup frozen peas and carrots
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 medium potimarron, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground lamb over medium-high heat until browned, about 7-8 minutes. Drain the excess fat from the skillet.
  3. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add the frozen peas and carrots, thyme leaves, tomato paste, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper, and stir to combine. Cook for 5-7 minutes, or until most of the liquid has evaporated and the filling is thickened.
  5. Transfer the filling to a baking dish and spread it evenly across the bottom.
  6. Meanwhile, boil the potimarron chunks in a pot of salted water until tender, about 20-25 minutes. Drain the potimarron and return it to the pot.
  7. Add the butter, heavy cream, nutmeg, salt, and black pepper to the pot, and mash the potimarron until smooth and creamy.
  8. Spoon the potimarron mixture over the top of the lamb filling and spread it gently with a spatula to cover the filling completely.
  9. Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the top of the potimarron layer.
  10. Bake the shepherd’s pie in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbly around the edges.
  11. Remove the shepherd’s pie from the oven and let it cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Verdict:

This Potimarron Shepherd’s Pie is a delicious and gourmet twist on the classic comfort food dish. The lamb filling is savory and flavorful, while the creamy and nutty potimarron topping adds a unique and delightful layer of taste and texture. The grated Parmesan cheese on top adds a nice touch of zing and richness. Perfect for a cozy and satisfying dinner on a chilly evening.
