Traditional Croque-Monsieur Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 slices of white bread
  • 4 slices of ham
  • 4 slices of Gruyere cheese
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1-1/2 cups milk
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add flour and stir until mixture is smooth and bubbly.
  3. Gradually add milk, whisking constantly, until the sauce is thickened and smooth.
