Tuna Samosas

Tuna Samosas

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup canned tuna, drained
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh coriander leaves
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 package (10-12 pieces) samosa wrappers
  • Water, as needed
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions:

  1. In a pan, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  2. Add onion, garlic, and ginger. Sauté until onion is translucent, for about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the tuna, cumin, coriander, turmeric, and cayenne pepper (if using). Sauté for 3-4 minutes until tuna is heated through.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in fresh coriander leaves, lemon juice, and salt. Set aside.
  5. Place the samosa wrappers on a flat surface. Cut each wrapper in half diagonally to create two triangles.
  6. In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of water with 1 tablespoon of flour. This will be used as a sealant for the samosas.
  7. Take one triangle and form a cone shape by folding one corner over the other. Seal the edge with the flour-water mixture.
  8. Fill the cone with 1-2 tablespoons of the tuna mixture. Do not overfill as it will be difficult to seal.
  9. Seal the top of the cone with the flour-water mixture.
  10. Repeat the process with the remaining samosa wrappers and tuna mixture.
  11. In a deep pot, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat (until it reaches 180°C/350°F).
  12. Fry samosas in small batches until golden brown on both sides, for about 3-5 minutes.
  13. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  14. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as mint chutney or tamarind sauce.

Verdict:

Tuna samosas are a delicious and unique twist on the classic meat-filled pastry. The combination of tuna and fragrant spices creates a flavorful and satisfying snack or appetizer.
