Veal Meatballs in Tomato Sauce Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground veal
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine the ground veal, breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese, parsley, egg, milk, salt, and black pepper. Use your hands to mix everything together until it is well combined.
- Roll the meat mixture into small meatballs, about the size of a golf ball.
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the olive oil and heat until hot. Add the meatballs to the skillet and cook until browned on all sides, about 8 to 10 minutes. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds.
- Add the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, sugar, and salt and black pepper to taste. Stir to combine and bring the sauce to a simmer.
- Add the meatballs back to the skillet, and spoon the tomato sauce over the top. Cover the skillet and simmer for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the meatballs are cooked through and the sauce has thickened.
- Remove from heat and let cool for a few minutes before serving.
