Apple Cake Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 medium apples, peeled and chopped (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well blended.
  3. In a large bowl, beat together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Mix in the dry ingredients in three additions, alternating with the milk and beginning and ending with the flour mixture.
  5. Fold in the chopped apples.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly.
  7. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cake to cool in the pan on a wire rack for at least 15 minutes before serving.
