Creme caramel
Ingredients:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 6 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 325°F.
- In a heavy saucepan, melt 1 cup granulated sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly until it turns a deep amber color.
- Pour the melted sugar into a 9-inch round cake pan and swirl it around so that it coats the bottom and sides of the pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups whole milk, 1 cup heavy cream, 6 large eggs, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1/4 teaspoon salt until combined.
- Pour the mixture into the prepared cake pan and place the pan into a baking dish or roasting pan. Add enough hot water into the baking dish or roasting pan to reach halfway up the sides of the cake pan.
- Bake for 50-55 minutes or until the custard is set around the edges but still slightly jiggly in the middle.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool to room temperature. Then cover it with plastic wrap and chill for at least 6 hours or overnight.
- Before serving, run a knife around the edges of the pan to loosen the custard. Invert a serving plate on top of the pan and flip it over to release the custard onto the plate.
- Drizzle some caramel sauce (optional) on top and serve chilled.
