Creme Caramel

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F.
  2. In a heavy saucepan, melt 1 cup granulated sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly until it turns a deep amber color.
  3. Pour the melted sugar into a 9-inch round cake pan and swirl it around so that it coats the bottom and sides of the pan.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups whole milk, 1 cup heavy cream, 6 large eggs, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1/4 teaspoon salt until combined.
  5. Pour the mixture into the prepared cake pan and place the pan into a baking dish or roasting pan. Add enough hot water into the baking dish or roasting pan to reach halfway up the sides of the cake pan.
  6. Bake for 50-55 minutes or until the custard is set around the edges but still slightly jiggly in the middle.
  7. Remove from the oven and let it cool to room temperature. Then cover it with plastic wrap and chill for at least 6 hours or overnight.
  8. Before serving, run a knife around the edges of the pan to loosen the custard. Invert a serving plate on top of the pan and flip it over to release the custard onto the plate.
  9. Drizzle some caramel sauce (optional) on top and serve chilled.

Verdict:

Creme caramel is a classic French dessert that looks impressive but is actually quite easy to make. This rich and luscious custard is perfectly balanced with a sweet caramel sauce. It’s a perfect way to end a dinner party or a special occasion. Everyone will love this delicious dessert!
