Gnocchi with tomato sauce: gourmet recipe

Gourmet Gnocchi with Tomato Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 pounds potatoes
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil leaves
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. Wash and peel the potatoes and boil them in a large pot of salted water for 20-25 minutes until they are soft.
  3. Drain the potatoes and mash them until they are smooth.
  4. Combine the mashed potatoes with flour, egg, salt, nutmeg, and Parmesan cheese in a large mixing bowl, kneading until a soft dough forms.
  5. Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces and roll each piece into a 1-inch thick rope.
  6. Cut each rope into 1-inch pieces and using a fork, press the tines into each gnocchi to create ridges.
  7. Place the gnocchi on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes or until they are golden brown.
  8. While the gnocchi is baking, prepare the tomato sauce: Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds or until fragrant.
  9. Add the crushed tomatoes, sugar, red pepper flakes, basil, salt, and pepper and bring the sauce to a simmer.
  10. Reduce the heat and let the sauce simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  11. Serve the gnocchi with the tomato sauce on top and garnish with extra Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves.

Verdict:

This gourmet gnocchi with tomato sauce is the perfect comfort food. The gnocchi is soft and fluffy inside while crispy on the outside, and the tomato sauce is bursting with flavor. The nutmeg and Parmesan cheese add extra richness and depth to the dish.
