Lasagna Bolognese

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. lasagna noodles
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can tomato sauce (15 oz.)
  • 1 can diced tomatoes (14 oz.)
  • 1 tsp. dried basil
  • 1 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Rinse with cold water and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned. Add onion and garlic and continue cooking until onion is soft.
  4. Add tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, basil, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 15-20 minutes.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, and Parmesan cheese.
  6. Spread a little bit of the meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  7. Place a layer of lasagna noodles on top of the sauce.
  8. Spread a layer of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles.
  9. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the ricotta cheese mixture.
  10. Add a layer of meat sauce on top of the mozzarella cheese.
  11. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of meat sauce and mozzarella cheese on top.
  12. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  13. Remove foil and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  14. Let lasagna cool for a few minutes before serving.
