Pho Soup Recipe
Ingredients:
- 8 cups of beef broth
- 2 inches of ginger root, peeled and sliced in half
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 5 whole cloves
- 1 star anise
- 1 lb of beef sirloin, thinly sliced
- 8 oz of rice noodles, cooked
- 2 cups of bean sprouts
- 4 scallions, thinly sliced
- 1 bunch of cilantro, chopped
- 1 lime, cut into wedges
- Hoisin sauce and hot chili sauce to taste
Directions:
- In a large pot, add the beef broth, ginger, onion, garlic, cinnamon stick, cloves, and star anise. Bring to a boil and then reduce to a simmer for about 30 minutes. Skim off any foam that rises to the top.
- While the broth is cooking, slice the beef sirloin and cook the rice noodles according to the package instructions. Set aside.
- Strain the broth through a fine mesh strainer and discard the solids. Return the broth to the pot and bring to a boil.
- To serve, fill bowls with cooked rice noodles, sliced beef, and pour the hot broth over it. Top with bean sprouts, scallions, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime. Serve with hoisin sauce and hot chili sauce on the side.
Verdict:
This Pho soup recipe offers a deliciously savory beef broth with a hint of sweetness from the star anise and cinnamon. The thinly sliced beef and fresh herbs atop soft rice noodles create a refreshing and filling meal.
