Taralli (Round breadsticks)


TARALLI RECIPE

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano
  • 1 tbsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 cup warm water

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, oregano, and red pepper flakes (if using).
  3. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add olive oil and white wine. Mix until well combined.
  4. Add warm water a little at a time, kneading the dough until it’s smooth and elastic.
  5. Divide the dough into small pieces and roll each piece into a rope about 6 inches long and 1/2 inch thick. Fold the rope in half and twist the two ends together to form a loop. Press the ends together to seal.
  6. Place the Taralli on the baking sheet, spacing them about an inch apart.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Cool on a wire rack. They can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
