Tiramisu (Mascarpone cheese and ladyfingers dessert)


Tiramisu Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pound mascarpone cheese
  • 24 ladyfingers
  • 1/4 cup coffee liquor
  • 1/4 cup brewed espresso or strong coffee
  • Cocoa powder for dusting

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, beat the egg yolks and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  2. Add milk to the egg mixture and mix well.
  3. Pour the mixture into a saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon. Be careful not to let it boil.
  4. Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool.
  5. In a separate bowl, beat the heavy cream and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  6. In another bowl, mix the mascarpone cheese until smooth.
  7. Gradually add the cooled egg mixture to the mascarpone cheese, mixing well after each addition.
  8. Fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until well combined.
  9. In a small bowl, mix the coffee liquor and brewed espresso or coffee.
  10. Dip the ladyfingers one by one into the coffee mixture and lay them on the bottom of a 9×13 inch dish.
  11. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture on top of the ladyfingers.
  12. Add another layer of dipped ladyfingers and spread the remaining mascarpone mixture on top.
  13. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  14. Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve chilled and cut into squares. Garnish with fresh berries or a sprig of mint. Enjoy with a cup of coffee or espresso.
