Traditional Potato Gratin Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1.5 kg potatoes, peeled and sliced thinly
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup grated gruyere cheese
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a pot, combine the heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper. Heat just until it starts to simmer.
  3. In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes.
  4. Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes, making sure to cover them completely.
  5. Sprinkle half of the grated gruyere cheese over the cream mixture.
  6. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese.
  7. Sprinkle the bread crumbs over the top of the gratin.
  8. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  9. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are cooked through.
  10. Let the gratin cool for a few minutes before serving.
