Apple crisp with orange and Cointreau

Apple Crisp with Orange and Cointreau Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 6 medium apples, peeled, cored and sliced into thin wedges
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons Cointreau
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. In a large bowl, toss together the apple wedges, granulated sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, orange zest, orange juice, and Cointreau. Pour the apple mixture into a 9-inch square baking dish.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, and salt. Using a pastry blender or your fingers, cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the oats. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.
  4. Bake for about 45 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender. Allow the crisp to cool for a few minutes before serving.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. This apple crisp is a perfect dessert for Thanksgiving or any other holiday gathering. It’s also a great make-ahead dessert, as it can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
