Apple Rösti
Ingredients:
- 2 large or 3 medium-sized apples, peeled and grated
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 eggs, lightly beaten
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- Vegetable oil for frying
Directions:
- In a large bowl, mix together the grated apples, flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and melted butter. Pour the egg mixture into the apple mixture and stir until well combined.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add enough vegetable oil to cover the bottom of the pan.
- Using a 1/4 cup measure, scoop the apple mixture into the hot skillet and flatten it with a spatula to form a pancake shape.
- Cook the rösti for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Transfer the cooked rösti to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
- Serve the apple rösti warm with sour cream or applesauce on top, if desired.
Verdict:
Apple rösti is a delicious and unique twist on the traditional potato rösti. The grated apples give it a sweet and slightly tart flavor, while the cinnamon adds a warm and cozy spice. It’s crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and the perfect comfort food for a chilly evening.
