Apple Steam Cake Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 apple, peeled and grated
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions:
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking powder.
- In a separate bowl, cream the sugar and butter until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and mix well.
- Stir in the dry ingredients and milk alternately, until the batter is smooth.
- Add the grated apple and vanilla extract, and stir to combine.
- Pour the batter into a greased, 8-inch round cake pan.
- Cover the pan with a loosely fitting lid or aluminum foil.
- Place the pan in a steamer basket and steam for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool for 10 minutes before removing it from the pan.
Serving suggestion:
Serve the apple steam cake warm or at room temperature with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.
Liège Syrup Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup corn syrup
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
Instructions:
- In a saucepan, combine the brown sugar, water, corn syrup, and butter.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar dissolves and the mixture comes to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 5-10 minutes or until it thickens.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Let the syrup cool before serving.
Serving suggestion:
Serve the Liège syrup warm or at room temperature with the apple steam cake or any other dessert of your choice. It is also great as a topping for pancakes, waffles, or French toast.
