Apple steam cake and Liège syrup: easy recipe


Apple Steam Cake Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 apple, peeled and grated
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking powder.
  2. In a separate bowl, cream the sugar and butter until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and mix well.
  4. Stir in the dry ingredients and milk alternately, until the batter is smooth.
  5. Add the grated apple and vanilla extract, and stir to combine.
  6. Pour the batter into a greased, 8-inch round cake pan.
  7. Cover the pan with a loosely fitting lid or aluminum foil.
  8. Place the pan in a steamer basket and steam for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  9. Let the cake cool for 10 minutes before removing it from the pan.

Serving suggestion:

Serve the apple steam cake warm or at room temperature with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.

Liège Syrup Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. In a saucepan, combine the brown sugar, water, corn syrup, and butter.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar dissolves and the mixture comes to a boil.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 5-10 minutes or until it thickens.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Let the syrup cool before serving.

Serving suggestion:

Serve the Liège syrup warm or at room temperature with the apple steam cake or any other dessert of your choice. It is also great as a topping for pancakes, waffles, or French toast.
