Apple tatin – Delicious

Apple Tatin Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 lbs. apples (preferably Granny Smith)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 tbsp. unsalted butter
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, defrosted
  • 1 egg, beaten

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Peel and core the apples, then cut them into quarters.
  3. In a heavy, oven-proof skillet or pan, melt the sugar over medium heat until it turns into a golden caramel.
  4. Add the butter to the caramel and stir until melted.
  5. Add the apple quarters to the caramel, cut side down, and cook for about 10 minutes or until the apples begin to soften and the caramel thickens.
  6. While the apples are cooking, roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface until it’s large enough to cover the skillet.
  7. Carefully place the pastry on top of the apples, tucking in the edges around the apples.
  8. Brush the beaten egg on top of the pastry.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed up.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes.
  11. Place a large plate over the skillet and invert the tatin onto the plate.
  12. Serve the apple tatin warm, with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
