Banana Cake with Salted Butter Caramel Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 stick unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 3 ripe bananas, mashed
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
Salted Butter Caramel
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and butter a 9-inch cake pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda and salt; set aside.
- In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Stir in the mashed bananas.
- Incorporate the dry ingredients into the banana mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, until everything is well combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 35 – 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean.
- Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then, invert it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- While the cake is cooling, make the salted butter caramel. In a medium saucepan, heat the sugar over medium-high heat until it melts and turns amber in color, swirling the pan occasionally.
- Remove the pan from the heat and add the butter; whisk until the butter is melted and combined with the caramel.
- Slowly drizzle in the cream while whisking constantly. Stir in the sea salt.
- Let the caramel cool for a few minutes until it thickens slightly.
- Pour the caramel over the top of the cooled cake, allowing it to drip down the sides of the cake.
- Serve the banana cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and extra salted butter caramel sauce if desired.
Verdict
This banana cake with salted butter caramel is a decadent and delicious dessert that is perfect for any occasion. The cake is moist and flavorful, while the caramel adds a rich and salty-sweet finish. It’s best served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.
