Black and White Tart Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon heavy cream
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, and sugar. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut butter into the mixture until it forms coarse crumbs.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together egg yolk and heavy cream. Add this to the flour mixture and work it in with your hands until the dough comes together.
  3. Form the dough into a disc, wrap it with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into a 12-inch circle. Transfer to a 9-inch tart pan and press the dough into the sides and bottom. Trim off any excess dough and prick the bottom with a fork.
  5. In a large bowl, beat together cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  6. Pour the cream cheese mixture into the prepared crust. Use a spoon to drop dollops of chocolate sauce over the top of the cream cheese mixture.
  7. Using a knife or toothpick, swirl the chocolate sauce into the cream cheese mixture to create a marbled effect.
  8. Bake the tart for 35-40 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the center is set. Let cool to room temperature before slicing and serving.
