Black Forest Cake: Chef’s Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup boiling water
  • 1 can cherry pie filling

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
  2. Prepare a 9-inch (23 cm) round cake pan by greasing the bottom and sides with butter or cooking spray.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Beat in the milk, oil, egg, and vanilla on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  5. Stir in boiling water (the batter will be thin), and mix until well combined.

  7. Let the cake cool completely in the pan.

  9. Place one of the cake layers on a serving platter.
  10. Spread cherry pie filling evenly over the bottom layer.
  11. Top with the second cake layer.
  12. Decorate the cake with whipped cream and chocolate curls.
