Braided Easter brioche – Delicious

Braided Easter Brioche Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cubed and softened
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • Colored sprinkles, for decoration (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Warm the milk in a small saucepan until lukewarm. Remove from heat and whisk in sugar and yeast until dissolved. Let sit for 10 minutes, until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture, eggs, and butter to the dry ingredients. Stir with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10 to 15 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Let rise for 1 to 2 hours, until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into three equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope, about 16 inches in length.
  7. Braid the ropes together and form into a wreath shape. Pinch the ends together to seal.
  8. Transfer the braid to a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise for another hour.
  9. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Beat the egg yolk and milk together in a small bowl. Brush the brioche with the egg wash, and decorate with colored sprinkles if desired.
  10. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until golden brown and fully cooked through.

Verdict:

This braided Easter brioche is a delicious and festive addition to any holiday brunch or dinner. The slightly sweet and buttery bread is soft and fluffy, making it perfect for spreading with jam or honey.
