Brioche Cake with Apples
Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 1/4 cup cold water
- 2 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
- 1 egg, beaten
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease an 8-inch cake pan with nonstick spray.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt and sugar. Add butter and use your fingers to incorporate into the flour mixture until it becomes a sandy texture.
- Add water and mix until just combined. Shape into a ball and flatten into a disc. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- In a medium bowl, toss apples with brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Roll the dough into a 12-inch circle and transfer to the prepared cake pan.
- Arrange the apple slices in a circular pattern over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edge.
- Brush the melted butter over the apples.
- Brush the beaten egg on the edges of the dough.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown and the apples are tender.
Serving Suggestions:
