Candied apples and salted butter caramel

Candied Apples and Salted Butter Caramel

Ingredients:

  • 6 medium-sized apples
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt

Instructions:

  1. Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Insert wooden sticks into the stem end of each apple and set aside.
  2. In a medium-sized pot, combine granulated sugar, light corn syrup, and 1/2 cup of water.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  4. Reduce heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 15-20 minutes or until it reaches the hard crack stage (300°F) on a candy thermometer.
  5. Remove the pot from heat and carefully dip each apple into the hot candy mixture, making sure it’s fully coated. Place the apples on a parchment-lined baking sheet to cool and let the candy coating harden.
  6. In another pot, melt 1/2 cup of unsalted butter over medium heat. Stir in 1/2 cup of heavy cream and 1 teaspoon of sea salt until fully combined.
  7. Let the mixture simmer for 5-7 minutes or until it thickens into a creamy caramel sauce.
  8. Remove from heat and let the sauce cool until it thickens slightly.
  9. Drizzle the salted butter caramel over the candied apples and serve immediately.
