Canistrelli Recipe: Filled Biscuits

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup of unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 1/4 cup of milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/2 cup of your favorite jam or chocolate spread

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the room temperature butter and mix using a pastry blender until the mixture is crumbly.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolk and milk together, then add it to the flour mixture and mix until a dough forms.
  5. Onto a floured surface, roll the dough out to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  6. Using a cookie cutter or a cup edge, cut the dough into circles.
  7. Place half of the circles onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving about an inch of space between each biscuit.
  8. Using a spoon, add a dollop of your favorite jam or chocolate spread onto each circle.
  9. Top each circle with a second biscuit circle, then use a fork to press the edges together to seal each biscuit.
  10. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until the edges of the biscuits are lightly golden.
  11. Allow the biscuits to cool for at least 5 minutes before serving.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve these delicious Canistrelli Filled Biscuits as a dessert or as a snack with your favorite beverage. They are best served warm, but can also be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
