  • 6 medium-sized apples
  • 1 cup of granulated white sugar
  • 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1/2 cup of heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry the apples, then remove the stem and insert a popsicle stick into the tops of each apple.
  2. In a medium-sized saucepan, add the sugar and top with enough water to moisten the sugar. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves and turns into a golden brown colour. This may take approximately 10 minutes.
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and quickly add the butter, stirring constantly. The mixture will bubble and foam, but this is normal.
  4. Once the butter has melted, add the heavy cream and vanilla extract. Be careful as the mixture will bubble and steam again. Stir continuously until the caramel is smooth and creamy.
  5. Dip each apple into the caramel mixture, turning them around gently to ensure they are coated completely. Hold them upright for a few seconds to let the excess caramel drip off.
  6. Place the coated apples onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let them cool for at least 15-20 minutes.
  7. The caramel candy apples are now ready to serve and enjoy!
