Chelsea Bun – Cinnamon Rolls Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 500g strong white flour
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp instant yeast
  • 50g caster sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 150ml warm milk
  • 50g unsalted butter
  • 100g raisins
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 50g brown sugar

Instructions:

  1. Mix the flour, salt, yeast, and caster sugar in a bowl. Make a well in the center.
  2. Add the egg and warm milk, and mix to form a dough.
  3. Knead the dough on a flour-dusted surface for 10 minutes till it is smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a bowl, cover and leave it to rise for an hour till it has doubled in size.
  5. Melt the butter, and combine it with raisins, cinnamon, and brown sugar in a bowl.
  6. Roll the dough into a rectangle, about 30cm x 40cm in size.
  7. Spread the butter and raisin mixture evenly over the rectangle.
  8. Roll the dough tightly from the longest edge, then cut it into 12 slices, about 2.5cm each.
  9. Place each slice into a greased baking dish, and leave it to rise for 30 minutes.
  10. Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/gas 4. Bake the buns for 20-25 minutes until they are golden brown.
  11. Cover the buns with a damp towel and let them cool.
