Chiffon Cake Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 5 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 5 egg whites
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar

Directions:

  2. In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Make a well in the center, and add oil, egg yolks, water, and vanilla extract. Beat until smooth with an electric mixer.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat egg whites and cream of tartar until stiff peaks form.
  4. Gently fold egg whites into the batter, being careful not to deflate them.
  5. Pour the batter into an ungreased tube pan.
  6. Bake for 60-70 minutes, or until the cake springs back when lightly touched.
  7. Invert the cake onto a cooling rack and let cool completely before removing from the pan.
