Chocolate-Orange Mousse Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
  • 2 tbsp. orange zest
  • 3 eggs, separated
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Directions:

  1. In a double boiler, melt the chocolate chips with the orange juice and orange zest, stirring until smooth. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. In a medium bowl, beat the egg yolks with the sugar and vanilla until pale yellow and thick.
  3. Add the chocolate mixture to the egg yolk mixture, stirring until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
  5. In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form.
  6. Gently fold the egg whites into the chocolate mixture until no streaks remain. Then fold in the whipped cream.
  7. Pour the mousse into individual serving dishes or one large bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until set.
  8. Garnish with additional orange zest, whipped cream, or chocolate shavings.
