Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup whipped cream
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • Sprinkles for decoration (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a 10×15-inch rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, use an electric mixer to cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  4. Add flour mixture to the butter mixture in three parts, alternating with milk and beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix in the chocolate chips.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking sheet and smooth the top with a spatula.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool for 5 minutes.
  7. While the cake is still warm, roll it with a towel or parchment paper dusted with powdered sugar to form a log. Leave it to cool completely in that shape.
  8. Unroll the cake, spread the whipped cream over the top and then roll it up again. Sprinkle with additional chocolate chips and/or sprinkles if desired.
  9. Refrigerate for an hour before slicing.
