Chocolate-Vanilla Log Recipe for Children
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 cup whipped cream
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- Sprinkles for decoration (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a 10×15-inch rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate large bowl, use an electric mixer to cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Add flour mixture to the butter mixture in three parts, alternating with milk and beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix in the chocolate chips.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking sheet and smooth the top with a spatula.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool for 5 minutes.
- While the cake is still warm, roll it with a towel or parchment paper dusted with powdered sugar to form a log. Leave it to cool completely in that shape.
- Unroll the cake, spread the whipped cream over the top and then roll it up again. Sprinkle with additional chocolate chips and/or sprinkles if desired.
- Refrigerate for an hour before slicing.
