Classic Vanilla Crème Brûlée Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 cups heavy cream
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise and scraped
- 6 egg yolks
- ¼ cup granulated sugar for the caramelized topping
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C).
- Pour heavy cream into a saucepan and add in the ½ cup of sugar and scraped vanilla bean seeds.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium-low heat and remove from heat once it reaches a simmer.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the egg yolks until they become pale yellow.
- Slowly add in the cream mixture to the eggs, whisking as you go. Make sure not to add too much cream at once to avoid cooking the eggs.
- Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a large measuring cup or bowl with a spout.
- Divide the mixture evenly into six 6-ounce ramekins or custard cups.
- Place the ramekins in a baking dish and fill it with water until it’s halfway up the sides of the ramekins.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the edges are set and the center jiggles a bit when shaken.
- Remove the ramekins from the water bath and cool them to room temperature.
- Cover the ramekins with plastic wrap and chill them in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- When ready to serve, sprinkle some granulated sugar evenly on top of each custard.
- Use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar until melted and golden-brown.
- Let the custards sit for a few minutes to let the caramel harden and serve.
Verdict:
This classic vanilla crème brûlée recipe is smooth, creamy, and brimming with rich vanilla flavor. Topped with a thin layer of crunchy, caramelized sugar, this decadent dessert will be a hit at any dinner party or special occasion.
Serving suggestions:
