Cocoa Sponge Cake Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
- Grease an 8-inch (20cm) cake pan and line the bottom with parchment paper.
- In a medium mixing bowl, stir together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- In a separate large mixing bowl, mix together the oil and sugar until blended.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Add the vanilla extract and mix to combine.
- Gradually fold in the dry ingredients mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients mixture. Mix until everything is just combined.
- Pour the cake batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
- Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean.
- Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
- Turn the cake out onto a wire rack to cool completely. Once cooled, dust with cocoa powder or icing sugar if desired.
