Crispy Biscuits with Spices
Delicious homemade biscuits perfect for snacking or as a side for soups and stews.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon of baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
- 1/2 cup of cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
- 3/4 cup of buttermilk
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (218°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper.
- Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut the butter into the dry mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add the buttermilk and mix until a cohesive dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead a few times until it comes together.
- Using a rolling pin, roll the dough out to a thickness of about 1/2 inch (1.3 cm).
- Use a round biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Reroll any scraps and cut out more biscuits until you’ve used up all the dough.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown and crispy on the outside.
- Remove from the oven and cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before serving.
