Crispy Biscuits with Spices

Delicious homemade biscuits perfect for snacking or as a side for soups and stews.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 cup of cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
  • 3/4 cup of buttermilk

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (218°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper.
  3. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut the butter into the dry mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add the buttermilk and mix until a cohesive dough forms.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead a few times until it comes together.
  6. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough out to a thickness of about 1/2 inch (1.3 cm).
  7. Use a round biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Reroll any scraps and cut out more biscuits until you’ve used up all the dough.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown and crispy on the outside.
  9. Remove from the oven and cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before serving.
