Dame de Dalloyau apple galette

Dame de Dalloyau Apple Galette

Ingredients:

  • 1 pre-made pie crust
  • 3-4 medium-sized apples, peeled and thinly sliced (Granny Smith apples work well)
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons coarse sugar or turbinado sugar

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Place the pie crust on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. In a medium-sized bowl, mix together the white sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and lemon juice.
  4. Add the sliced apples to the bowl and toss until they are coated in the sugar mixture.
  5. Arrange the apple slices over the center of the pie crust, leaving a 2-inch border around the edge.
  6. Dot the butter pieces over the top of the apples.
  7. Fold the edges of the pie crust up and over the apples, crimping the dough slightly as you go.
  8. Brush the beaten egg over the pie crust edges and sprinkle the coarse sugar over them.
  9. Bake the galette in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  10. Let the galette cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Verdict:

This delicious galette is bursting with apple flavor, thanks to the combination of cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice in the filling. The crust is flaky and buttery, and the coarse sugar gives the edges a lovely crunch. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for a delightful dessert.
