Fig Tart Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp ice water
- 1 lb fresh figs, stemmed and halved
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup orange juice
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 cup sliced almonds
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Grease a 9-inch tart pan with removable bottom.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt.
- Add the cubed butter and use your fingers or a pastry blender to cut the butter into the flour mixture until the mixture is crumbly.
- In a small bowl, beat the egg with the ice water and add to the flour mixture. Use your hands to mix everything together until it forms a ball of dough.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and roll out to fit the tart pan.
- Press the dough into the pan and prick the bottom with a fork.
- Arrange the halved figs cut-side up in the tart shell.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, orange juice, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour the mixture over the figs.
- Sprinkle the sliced almonds over the top of the tart.
- Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the figs are tender.
- Let the tart cool for 10 minutes before serving.
