Focaccia with red onions and rosemary

Focaccia with Red Onions and Rosemary Recipe

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups bread flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 3/4 cups warm water
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 red onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 sprigs of fresh rosemary, finely chopped
  • Sea salt for sprinkling

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, yeast, salt, and sugar. Slowly add in the warm water and olive oil, stirring until a dough forms.
  2. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it with a damp cloth. Allow the dough to rise for 1 hour in a warm place, until it doubles in size.
  3. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Grease a baking sheet with olive oil.
  4. Punch down the dough and transfer it onto the greased baking sheet. Use your fingertips to press the dough down into an even layer. Spread the thinly sliced red onions evenly across the surface. Sprinkle with finely chopped rosemary and sea salt.
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the focaccia is golden brown and the onions are caramelized. Remove from the oven and allow it to cool for 5 minutes before slicing into wedges.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the warm focaccia with a side of marinara sauce or a garlic-infused olive oil. This bread also pairs well with salads, soups, and your favorite Italian dishes. Enjoy!
