Fried Mussels Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 pound of fresh mussels
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup vegetable oil, for frying

Directions

  1. Clean and debeard mussels. Rinse under cold water and soak in salt water for about 15 minutes to remove sand and impurities.
  2. In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the milk and egg.
  4. Coat each mussel in the seasoned flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
  5. Dip each coated mussel into the milk and egg mixture, making sure it is well coated.
  6. Put mussels back in the seasoned flour mixture and coat all sides well, shaking off any excess.
  7. In a deep frying pan, heat oil over medium heat. Once heated, carefully lower each coated mussel into the hot oil.
  8. Fry for about 2-3 minutes until golden brown. Remove from oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb any excess oil.
  9. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce such as tartar sauce or cocktail sauce.
