Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 egg

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat together butter and brown sugar until well combined.
  4. Beat in molasses, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients in two additions, alternating with the hot water, and mix well to form a smooth batter.
  6. Grease a 9×9 inch square baking pan with butter or cooking spray.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the gingerbread comes out clean.
