Hazelnut Dacquoise with Caramelized Apples and Lemon

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup hazelnuts, toasted and ground
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup egg whites
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups apples, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 pinch salt

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground hazelnuts and powdered sugar.
  3. In another bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form.
  4. Add in the granulated sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.
  5. Gently fold the egg whites into the hazelnut mixture until just combined.
