Lamb Turnovers with Candied Lemon Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb lamb, minced
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 package of puff pastry
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 lemons, thinly sliced

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F/200°C.
  2. In a pan, heat the olive oil and sauté the onions until golden brown.
  3. Add the minced lamb, cumin powder, coriander powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Cook until the lamb is browned.
  4. Remove from heat and let the lamb cool down.
  5. Roll out the puff pastry and cut into 4 squares.
  6. Place 2 tbsp of lamb mixture on one half of each pastry square.
  7. Brush the edge of the pastry with beaten egg, then fold the other half over to create a triangle shape. Press the edges to seal.
  8. Place the turnovers on a lined baking sheet and brush with the remaining beaten egg.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Meanwhile, make the candied lemon by combining the sugar and water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil.
  11. Add the sliced lemons and simmer for 20-25 minutes or until the lemon slices are soft and the syrup has thickened.
  12. Remove the turnovers from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes.
  13. Serve the turnovers with the candied lemon on top.

Verdict:

The savory flavor of the lamb mixture goes well with the tangy sweetness of the candied lemon. The crispy puff pastry adds a nice texture to the dish.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve the lamb turnovers with a side salad or steamed veggies for a complete meal. Alternatively, serve them as a party appetizer or snack.
