Linzer torte: red fruit dessert (3 steps)

Linzer Torte: Red Fruit Dessert Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 150g unsalted butter
  • 125g caster sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 225g plain flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 200g raspberry or strawberry jam (or any red fruit jam of your choice)
  • 150g almonds, finely ground
  • 1 egg white, lightly beaten

Directions:

  1. Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until well combined. Stir in the ground almonds.
  3. Divide the dough in half. On a lightly floured surface, roll out one portion to fit the bottom of a 9-inch tart tin. Spread the jam over the base, leaving approximately one inch around the edge. Roll out the second portion of the dough and cut into strips. Arrange the strips in a criss-cross pattern over the jam, pressing the edges into the bottom crust to seal. Brush the top with the beaten egg white.
  4. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool to room temperature before serving.
