Meringues Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 egg whites
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Food coloring (optional)
Directions
- Preheat your oven to 225°F (110°C).
- In a clean mixing bowl, beat the egg whites until frothy using an electric mixer or stand mixer.
- Add cream of tartar and salt, continue to beat until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add the sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, while continuing to beat. Ensure the sugar has dissolved before adding the next spoonful.
- After all the sugar has been added, continue to beat until the mixture is glossy and stiff peaks form.
- Add vanilla extract and food coloring (if desired) and mix until combined.
- Scoop the mixture onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Create the desired size and shape of the meringues, leaving space between them.
- Bake the meringues for 1 1/2 – 2 hours until they are dry and firm. Rotate the baking sheet halfway through the cooking time.
- Turn off the oven and allow the meringues to cool completely in the oven.
