Morels and Asparagus with Cream and Orange Powder
Ingredients:
- 1/2 lb of fresh morels
- 1 lb of fresh asparagus
- 1/4 cup of heavy cream
- 1 tbsp of orange powder
- 1 tbsp of unsalted butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Clean the morels by wiping them with a damp towel or brushing them gently with a mushroom brush. Cut the stems off and discard. Slice the morels in half lengthwise.
- Trim the woody parts off the bottom of the asparagus stalks. Cut the asparagus into bite-sized pieces.
- In a large pan, melt the butter over medium-high heat. Add in the sliced morels and asparagus pieces and sauté for 5-7 minutes or until they are tender and golden brown.
- Pour in the heavy cream and continue to cook until the cream has reduced and thickened slightly. Add salt and pepper to taste.
- Sprinkle the orange powder on top of the dish just before serving.
Verdict:
This dish is a perfect combination of earthy and fresh flavors. The morels add a nutty and meaty element while the asparagus bring a crisp texture and subtle sweetness. The cream ties everything together with a silky richness and the orange powder gives a hint of citrusy zing. Serve this as a side dish or add some protein to make it a complete meal.
Serving Suggestions:
- Pair with a grilled steak or roasted chicken for a hearty and sophisticated main course.
- Add a poached egg on top for a deliciously decadent brunch option.
- Serve as a side dish to a fancy dinner party along with a glass of white wine or champagne.
