Mozzarella in Carrozza (Fried Mozzarella)

Ingredients

  • 8-10 slices of fresh mozzarella cheese
  • 8-10 slices of white bread, crusts removed
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Lay out the bread slices and place a slice of mozzarella on each one. Top with another slice of bread to make a sandwich.
  2. In a shallow bowl, mix together the flour, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk.
  4. In a third bowl, mix together the breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese.
  5. Heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  6. Dip each sandwich in the flour mixture, then the egg mixture, then the breadcrumb mixture, making sure to coat each one evenly.
  7. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the sandwiches to the skillet. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
  9. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
