Recipe: Multicolored Chocolate-Caramel Eggs

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 ounces melted white chocolate
  • Yellow and green food coloring

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar and water. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in the cream, butter, and salt until smooth.
  3. Return to heat and bring to a boil. Cook for 5 minutes without stirring.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Allow to cool slightly.
  5. Divide the caramel mixture into three bowls. Add yellow food coloring to one bowl, green to another, and leave the third bowl plain.
  6. Spoon the caramel mixture into egg-shaped molds, filling each about 1/3 of the way with each color. Allow to cool completely in the refrigerator.
  7. Pop the eggs out of the molds and melt the white chocolate in a double boiler.
  8. Dip each egg in the melted chocolate to coat completely and place on a lined baking sheet.
  9. Pop back into the fridge to cool and set the chocolate.
