- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup white chocolate chips
- 1 cup heavy cream
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 180°C. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Using an electric mixer, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in eggs, one at a time, and then add the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Fold the dry ingredients slowly into the butter mixture, alternating with the milk.
- Divide the batter into two bowls.
- Melt dark chocolate chips in a double boiler or in the microwave. Add the melted chocolate to one bowl of batter and mix well.
- Melt white chocolate chips in a double boiler or in the microwave. Add the melted chocolate to the other bowl of batter and mix well.
- Spoon the batter alternately into the number cake tin. If you don’t have a number cake tin, you can use a square or rectangle cake tin and cut out your number shapes.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool completely.
- In a small saucepan, heat heavy cream until it just begins to steam.
- Place the white chocolate chips in a bowl and pour the hot cream over them. Stir until the chocolate has melted and the mixture is smooth.
- Repeat the process with the dark chocolate chips and another bowl of hot cream.
- Cover the bowls with cling wrap and refrigerate the mixtures for 30-45 minutes, or until firm.
- Spread the white chocolate mixture onto the bottom half of the number cake, using a spatula to smooth it out.
- Carefully place the top half of the number cake on top of the white chocolate mixture.
- Spread the dark chocolate mixture over the top half of the cake, using a spatula to smooth it out.
- Refrigerate the cake for at least an hour before serving.
